What do I wear?!

What to wear to a senior or engagement session is always something people worry about it. Here are some general guidelines to go by but don’t get overwhelmed by them! As long as you are sure to follow rule #1, and you feel smokin’ hot, then you will look smokin’ hot!

  1. Wear something comfortable! If you aren’t comfortable in the fabric or fit of your outfit, it’s not the one to wear to your session.
  2. We aren’t going to ruin anyone’s clothes, but on location, you may get a little dusty, dirty, wet, etc so if your outfit is delicate and you absolutely couldn’t stand for a little dust or dirt to touch it, leave it at home in it’s nice plastic bag.
  3. For Couples – coordinate – don’t match. Try wearing an item in the same color but different shades or complementary colors. And make sure the attire for both of you is of similar style/formality.
  4. Avoid really bold/busy patterns, horizontal strips (especially if they are thick), sleeveless tops or large logos/text on any items of clothes. These will draw attention to your clothes and not to you.
  5. Dresses are great for women but leave the miniskirt at home.
  6. Color rocks – jewel tones photograph beautifully. You can’t go wrong in solids – but try rich solids, not black or white or pastels.
  7. Feel free to bring a couple of outfits, I can help you choose when you get here and we may have time for you to change for another location.
  8. Bring accessories, if you have a cute purse, shoes, hat, belt, shades, etc – bring it along!
  9. Bring props! For my seniors, this can be anything that tells me who you are and what you like to do; Sports attire & equipment, your car/bike/scooter, art supplies, instrument, books, etc…For my couples;
    if the two of you sit at home and play Scrabble every Sunday, bring the game along. If you two have a fur baby together, bring him along. If you are die hard college football fans, bring your jerseys and a football with you. If you have a favorite chair – haul it over! If it reflects who you are, then I always welcome it!
  10. Wear something comfortable – be you.

For Parents

  1. Try to limit to 1 or 2 outfit changes – it’s easy for little ones to get cranky and tired when changing clothes
  2. Feel free to dress them when you arrive so that their outfit doesn’t get wrinkled, spilled on, spit up on, etc on the way to your session
  3. Get creative! Bring one ‘nice’ outfit and then let them pick the other or choose something fun and silly.
  4. Feel free to bring some props as well!  The studio will always have props but if there is a favorite toy or something you have that you love, feel free to bring it in! Not only will they help engage your child in something to do but will make them feel more comfortable having something of theirs with them.
  5. Try to choose a time of day for your session when your child / children are generally the most alert and happy.  After nap time and full bellies work best for happy kids.
  6. Don’t get frustrated if your little one doesn’t seem to be cooperating.  I have lots of tricks up my sleeve and a quick trigger finger, I can usually catch some great stuff even in the most stubborn or disinterested kids!
